I just heard on the radio that a Congressman from Michigan I believe is planning to introduce new legislation that will overturn the existing law prohibiting internet gambling. Has anybody else heard anything about this?
It's a terrible misrepresentation to claim there is any existing law prohibiting internet gambling. There isn't.
If Michigan state law does not prohibit internet casinos and poker rooms, then there is no federal law standing in the way. The Wire Act addresses telephone sports wagering, but I doubt he's talking about that. UIGEA addresses "illegal" gambling only.
Of course, overturning federal enforcement of protectionist state prohibitionist laws via UIGEA will certainly be a huge benefit, given the most companies -- esp banks and payment processors -- won't make state-by-state rules.
